Why it happens under pressure
Decisions are made on the version of your answer that other people can carry out of the room. An unstructured answer cannot be carried, so a colleague compresses it, and the compression drops the part you cared about. Under pressure this gets worse: the position gets hedged, the example arrives before the point, and the answer runs long because stopping feels unsafe.
None of this is a language gap. Structure breaks the same way in a first language under enough pressure. It is a habit, which is the good news, because habits move quickly once they are measured.
