The same answer, over and over
The person was excellent. Their English was good. And in the meetings that counted, they were still being overlooked. When we asked why, they nearly always gave the same answer: my English is not good enough. It nearly always was.
What was actually happening was narrower and more fixable. Under pressure the answer lost its order. The point arrived late. The position was hedged into a guess. The room drew a conclusion about the person that had nothing to do with their ability.
So we stopped treating it as a language question and started measuring it as a performance one. Five dimensions, assessed live, under real pressure, on a fixed 100 point scale. That is the SignalCheck.
